Care Center residents vie for crown
Lucille Robbins is nearing her 99th birthday. Dorothy Gunnell, at 93, is close behind. But the two are still young enough to vie for a beauty pageant crown.
That’s just what they did on Friday when they took a limo ride to Salt Lake City to participate in the “Utah Health Care Association’s Ms. Golden Years Pageant, as representatives from the Bear River Valley Care Center. They made the trip with Enid Whiting, who was last year’s first attendant in the contest and was there to pass the crown on to the new queen.
Titled “The Best is Yet to Come,” the competition included senior citizens from care centers throughout Utah who are judged on both their inner and outer beauty. Each was to share their greatest accomplishment and were also asked three questions, which they answered for a panel of judges and the audience. Those questions were: What is the best thing about your care center?; What advice do you have for today’s youth?; and What is the most exciting thing you have done in your life?
