After placing first in their first three region matches, the Bear River golf team came back to earth over the last two region matches, placing third. As the region race sits now the Bears are tied for first with Morgan.

Two weeks ago, the Bears placed third at the Stansbury region tournament, this past week the Bears traveled to Mt. Ogden and again finished in third place. For the Bears, Augman Jolley tied for third with an 80, Bridger Layton tied for sixth with an 82, Triston Hartfiel placed eighth with an 84, and Tanner Murray shot a 91.

“We just hit a slump and as we have practiced this week, the boys have ironed out some things and are looking much stronger than they have over the past two weeks,” said coach Candice Starr.

Not only did the varsity team do well, but the JV also has been playing in region tournaments last week. Sophomore Keetch Mecham placed third and Scott Paulsen placed fifth. The JV traveled to Morgan on Tuesday for a match. Up next for the varsity will be a match at Morgan on the Thursday.

Region this year will be held at Eagle Mountain Golf Course in Brigham City and state will take place in Vernal.
