The Bear River volleyball team has been busy this week as they traveled to Mustang territory on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Although the Bears came to play, they ended up leaving with three losses Mt. Crest won by the scores of 16-25, 19-25 and 22-25.

“We were a stronger serving team for these games but we just couldn’t get the wins,” coach Megan Cooper stated. Samantha Getz had nine points with two aces while Stephany Peterson and Alyssa Park tied with five kills each. Caitlin Wiggins had seven digs and Monica Olsen and Kelsee Hancock had five digs each. Olsen also had 21 set assists.

On Thursday the Bears hosted region rival Stansbury and came away with one win in four sets with the scores 19-25, 11-25, 25-22 and 19-25.

Cooper stated this was not the same team than they had seen last year. They have a new coach and they weren’t letting anything drop.

“I have to give props to our setter Monica Olsen,” Cooper said. “I pulled her from setting to be my passer and put freshman Jenny Bitner in to set. Olsen has the best form for passing and we needed that to get our serve and receive down. Monica definitely was a major factor in our winning a set.  Caitlin and Alyssa were hitting great off of Jenny’s sets and it was because of Monica’s passing.”
