Rhodes defends club championship title

Tora Rhodes defended her title at the Skyway Ladies’ Club Championship golf tournament on Saturday. However, the victory this year was a sweeter one as she was able to go up against a four-time champion of the tourney, Candice Starr.
Rhodes, who has been runner up on at least four occasions, won the title last year but did not have the opportunity to compete with Starr as she had prior obligations. This year she had that opportunity and it was a battle back and forth between the two.
Rhodes said she came into the tournament with a very open mind and heart, saying, “Candice is such a good player so my expectations were not real high.”
Rhodes prepared for the tournament by competing in the Utah State Am at the Logan Country Club a week before. She said she felt she struggled on this course and went up against a lot of very competitive and young individuals, who helped prepare her for the Skyway tourney.
Although Rhodes was not sure where they stood on score during the tournament, she knew it was close the entire match. Friday Rhodes and Starr were very close and ended the day tied at 76. Starr was not on the top of her game Saturday and a few extra strokes allowed Rhodes to pull away with the lead.
Rhodes carded a 36-hole total of 151 while Starr came in at 156 close behind was Pam Shaw who has been playing golf for over 15 years. She finished third with a score of 160.
