Memoriable finale at That Famous Preston Rodeo
Logan Herald Journal
Tyrell Smith entered this week only four spots removed from the top 15 of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) World Standings in saddle bronc riding.
There’s a good chance Smith gained some ground in his quest for the top 15, which would ensure a spot to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR), after his performance on the third and final night of the 77th annual That Famous Preston Night Rodeo last Friday night.
That’s because the Great Falls, Mont., cowboy posted the top score over the entire three days of the rodeo. Smith rode Red Ears to a mark of 83 on Saturday.
“It feels really good (to win) when you’re riding against guys like Spencer Wright and Bryan Martinat,” Smith said. “It feels good to come out on top. I mean, it helps out when you get good horses.”
Wright, who has three brothers currently ranked in the top six in the PRCA in saddle bronc riding, indeed ended up being Smith’s top competition. Wright scored an 81 Saturday, as did Bear River City resident Shelby Terry.

Bear River City Resident Tag Elliott recently participated in the 77th annual That Famous Preston Night Rodeo placing in a three-way tie with Tim Bingham and Shawn Proctor for top honors in bull riding.
