A 41-year-old man is in an Ogden hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen after a neighbor admitted to shooting him  Thursday night.

Kevin Potter, Chief Deputy with the Box Elder Sheriff’s Department, said the shooting at 68200 W. 15722 N., was called in just after 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 5, by the man who allegedly pulled the trigger, 61-year-old Kevin Angus from Salt Lake City.  Both men own property in Dove Creek Estates, about 20 miles from Park Valley in the western part of the county.

The man told the responding officers that the victim, Frank Lynn Richins, had come to his home to continue an ongoing feud and then threatened him with a shotgun he retrieved from his vehicle.  The man said he fired a handgun at the victim in self-defense, striking him in the stomach.

Potter said the victim’s wife was in the vehicle and drove him away from the scene.

Along with officers from the Sheriff’s Department, Utah Highway Patrol troopers, Park Valley ambulance and fire crews, as well as an Air Med helicopter also responded, but the scene had to be secured before medical personnel could assist and transport the wounded man to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Potter said the investigation into the incident is continuing, but no charges have yet been filed.  The case is under review by the county attorney.

I saw a sign out in Dove Creek one time that claimed: “The last person who parked here is now missing.” There are some of the weirdest people out there.
