School board members spent a good deal of time at the last board meeting talking about the implementation and results of the PLC (Professional Learning Communities) arrangement throughout schools in the district.
At the present time, secondary schools have a late start on Wednesday, which allows teachers to collaborate in PLC meetings and improve their presentation and evaluation of student performance. Elementary teachers do the same on an early out Wednesday afternoons.
Jeremy Young, math teacher at Bear River High School, explained how time spent in PLC’s improved the math department’s approach to teaching, evaluating and implementing interventions for students. Julie Nelson and Lori Korth, third grade teachers from Discovery School, also shared experiences with the success of PLC time.
