Winning is one word that describes the Bear River wrestling team last week. The varsity wrestlers went an impressive 9-0 last week in dual meets, as the JV and extra wrestlers won a tournament while suffering a few losses.
The first victim for BR was Region 11 opponent Stansbury. The Bears varsity rolled to a 52-21 win while JV had a 76-3 victory.
Winning by pin fall for the varsity included Nick Bingham (106), Tanner Vanvalkenberg (132), Tanner Christensen (152), Alex Creer (170), Chad Hornberger (182) and Keanyn Zundel (220).
Brady Haramoto (113) and Dallen Bergman (160) won by decision while Dominic Kunder (120) won by major decision.
After claiming their first region dual win, BR traveled to compete in the Roy Duals. BR dominated both the varsity and JV tournaments with several wrestlers going undefeated.
As a team BR beat North Ridge 65-12, Box Elder (JV) 47-14, Brighton 52-15, Bonneville 75-3, Preston 53-18 and Mountain Crest (JV) 57-12 to advance to the championship round.
From there, BR won against Layton 31-25 before getting a chance at revenge on Tooele, winning 45-19, after losing earlier this season 36-35.
“We are now 1-1 in Region,” said head coach Jeff Smart. “I think we are on the track where we need to be. We made adjustments and we are continuing to get better.”
Going undefeated at Roy for the Bears varsity include Bingham, Hornberger and Zundel, while Haramoto, Kunder and Justin Andersen (138) only had one loss.
