Second Economic Summit set
In 2008, Box Elder County’s unemployment was at 3.2 percent. Just three years later, it has nearly tripled to 8.9 percent. That number is even down from an earlier high of 10 percent. Neighboring counties are much lower, with Cache seeing a rate of 5.7 percent.
Hundreds of individuals and families are affected by layoffs and the ripple effect is impacting housing and sales throughout the county. The downturn in the economy is a countywide issue, one that needs to be addressed.
Answers to the growing economic problem can be found at the second annual Box Elder County Economic Development Summit, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Utah State University Brigham City Campus.
This event, sponsored by Box Elder County, USU and corporate partners, is free to the public and business owners and managers from throughout the county are encouraged to attend.
