Tremonton Police officer Jeremy Rose, a 12-year veteran and Tremonton resident, was arrest on Friday, June 14, for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

Police Chief Dave Nance received notification from the Attorney General’s Office that the Internet Task Force had information and were conducting an investigation.

He said, “As you can imagine it was a shock, a disappointment all the way around. We certainly don’t want that type of publicity.”

Paul Murphy, of the Utah Attorney General’s Office, reported that since the matter is still under investigation public information is limited. He said, “I can only confirm that Mr. Rose was arrested by the Utah Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.”

Nance said Rose was booked in the Davis County Jail and then transferred to Box Elder County where he was bailed out. Rose was currently working patrol and is now on paid administrative leave.

A man was shot in the head while attending church in Ogden Sunday morning and the alleged shooter was arrested in Box Elder County Sunday afternoon after a call to 9-1-1.

Charles Richard Jennings, Jr., 36, appeared to have purposely targeted the victim, his father-in-law, shooting him in the back of the head at St. James Catholic Church, 495 North Harrison Blvd, just before noon. He then fled the scene in a stolen 1996 white GMC pickup truck. An attempt-to-locate the suspect, who was considered armed and dangerous, was sent out, but it was close to 3 p.m., before Box Elder County dispatch received a call saying the suspect had run out of gas, abandoned the vehicle on foot and walked off on a dirt road. Dispatch was told he was unsure where he was but wanted to turn himself into police and was now unarmed.

Dispatch was able to pinpoint his location as near the White’s Valley area off of I-84 at exit 34. The stolen truck was found and law enforcement personnel converged on the scene.

Orders from officers to the suspect were directed through dispatch and he was told to stand in the middle of the road with his hands in the air until officers arrived. Jennings was wearing jeans but no shirt when he was located.

Jennings was taken into custody by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper without incident and returned to Ogden. Box Elder County Search and Rescue team members were called to the scene and helped recover the weapon the suspect allegedly used on his targeted victim and then threw away.

The victim was transported to McKay-Dee Hospital in critical but stable condition. No other church goers were injured during the altercation.

Winnie Richman
Leader Correspondent

May 31, 2013, was a big day in the Richman and Lott families. Greg and Heather Lott, Clynn and Winnie Richman’s son-in-law and daughter, flew to Phoenix the day before, spent the night and attended Colton and Caden Lott’s graduation from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI). Also graduating with them was their best friend Bryce Spencer from Thatcher.
All three young men made the Director’s List, had perfect attendance and received several SOC’s (Student of the Course) awards.
To achieve a Director’s List award a student must achieve 90 percent or better in all his courses. Caden received three SOC’s during the year he was there; Colton received two and Bryce received one.
The three young men, having gotten used to the high Phoenix heat, complained of being cold when they woke up the next morning after their arrival in the Thatcher/Penrose area.
Winnie Richman would like to say, “Hi,” to Mr. and Mrs. Reed Burke, faithful readers of the column. Mrs. Burke is the former Barbara Swenson from Winnie’s BEHS days. Winnie and Clynn also say, “Hi,” to Joycle Padsen-Smith of Syracuse. It was good to see her Friday.
On Tuesday Lyle Richman and Heather Lott came to the Double S Bar to help Winnie load six fat steers for the market. All went well. Winnie drove the steers to town where Lyle helped unload them. All the calves weighed more than 600 pounds each on the hook. That means each weighed approximately 1,100 pounds on the hoof! Winnie is so glad they’re gone. The chore time is way shorter now. “Thank you, Lyle and Heather,” Clynn and Winnie say.
On Saturday as she was plowing merrily away, Winnie’s tractor suddenly blew black smoke out of the exhaust and made a terrible rattling and clacking sound.
She stopped but didn’t turn it off and called son Lyle. He said to stop plowing but drive the tractor to the barn yard slowly, a distance of half a mile.
Laura Wheatley says her girls really love riding the family four-wheeler, especially Georgia. Everly likes chasing the young calves while Laura drives. The Wheatley’s garden will be started soon. The Wheatley’s think they need to start over trying to raise baby chicks. Although the hen is still sitting on her nest, there are still no babies.
Cleo and Gary Petit drove down to Fillmore Sunday through Tuesday on Memorial weekend. They spent time with LeRoy Jackson and his wife. They all had a great visit. The Petit’s garden is in now.
Boyd Udy is plowing more fire breaks both at the ATK plant site and around the ranch. The rest of the time he is just working around the ranch. When asked if he has a garden he just said, “No!”

Beauty isn’t just skin deep. It comes from within and one Deweyville family radiates that beauty inside and out. Not only are they the kindest, most generous family you’ll meet, they also have a talent for turning their yard into something spectacular.
Randy, Holly and Shay Hatch of Deweyville are one of this year’s Green Arrow Award winners for their beautiful waterfalls, landscaping and fun features that bring the neighborhood kids running to their yard.
They have lived in Deweyville since 1985. Randy started working on the yard right away. In 1990, they welcomed their daughter. Shay who was the envy of the neighborhood kids.

The Tremonton City Council discussed and approved changes made by the Planning Commission to the City’s zoning, subdivision and revised ordinances.
Planning Commission Zoning Administrator Steve Bench informed the council on which changes had been made to the zoning, subdivision and revised ordinances.
After discussing definitions associated with the agriculture industry and businesses, Bench said the Planning Commission also added that rendering and animal byproducts for human or non-human consumption would be prohibited in Tremonton.
Councilmember Byron Wood then proposed adding slaughter plants processing 50 or more animals in a 24-hour period, should not be allowed within city limits.
Councilman Lyle Holmgren replied, “If it is not commercial, you will not be dealing with 100 in a day. I guess I just don’t want us to, just because we are opposed to a hog slaughtering plant, write something in and somewhere down the road it comes back to bite you a little bit.”
